Get Ready!!!!

Yankees Comebacks

For those of us who yearn to hear the crack of the bat, savor the distant smell of leather cream pampering the treasured glove we reluctantly moved to the top shelf of the closet, who delight in the boyhood thrill of watching, with the keenest of eyes, yet another great Yankees lineup reveal itself in all of its ceremonious and glorious distinction, we devour past triumphant moments now like longshoremen on steak. Pass the Jeter, pleeease!!!

Munson's Spirit Lives on in New York

Athletes Reflect on Catcher's Life at Annual Awards Dinner
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com

NEW YORK -- Goose Gossage can still hear the telephone ringing, George Steinbrenner waiting to deliver the most awful news the pitcher hasever dealt with.

Gossage can never forget Aug. 2, 1979; the day the Yankees lost their captain, Thurman Munson, in a tragic airplane accident outside Canton, Ohio.

"I get chills all the time," Gossage said. "I think about it a lot. It was, to this day, the toughest thing I've ever gone through as a player."

Munson's spirit continues to live on, as shown by another stellar turnout for the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner in New York.........More

Cashman Reshaping Yankees

GM Glad He's not the Boss' Puppet Anymore
BY PETER ABRAHAM | THE (WESTCHESTER, N.Y.) JOURNAL NEWS

NEW YORK - The Yankees have gone six seasons without winning the World Series, a baseball eternity for a team of their stature. But Kevin Towers cannot remember a time when Brian Cashman has been happier.

'He had gotten to a point where he was beyond frustrated,' said Towers, the general manager of the San Diego Padres and one of Cashman's closest friends in the game. 'He was taking the heat, but it was for things that were beyond his control.

''But when I talk to him now, he's a different man. Brian is doing what he wants to do, and I have to say, it's not good......More

Williams says he has no regrets

Notes: Williams says he has no regrets
Yankees have been in contact with center fielder's agent
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com

NEW YORK -- The Yankees have made it a point to tread delicately regarding Bernie Williams' future this winter.

But with Spring Training drawing closer and no contract offers yet from the club, Williams is accepting the idea that his 16-year career with the Yankees may be over.

Williams made his first public comments of the offseason to the Journal-News of Westchester (N.Y.) for Thursday's editions, taking a break as he pursued one of his other great passions -- jazz music -- as a special guest performer at a suburban New York club.

'I have come to a place in my career where.......More

"Part of me says if they wanted me, they would have made an offer by now," Williams told the Journal-News. "When you play this game for a long time, you take things for granted and think it won't end. But the harsh reality of it is, it will."

Bernie Williams Gets Them All Home with the Bases Loaded

against the Toronto Blue Jays, Yankee Stadium.

globalEyeNews Footnote:
Apparently the Yankees don't get it. With the Bombers having bombed over the past few seasons, failing to get to the big dance mostly because of inadequate pitching, they appear to be in grand denial. Even at 38, Bernie is still a major component of that infectious PINSTRIPE PRIDE, the intangible Yankee chemistry that it takes to go all the way. Playing paper chess with Cashman Cash for players won't ever deliver the goods in a lifetime of trying.

A League Of Their Own: No Crying In Baseball!

A League Of Their Own: No Crying In Baseball!

globalEyeNews footnote: When it comes to Bernie Williams and all those that can still taste the glory, we say, enforce the rule. The Yankees should find a place for him, no matter what it takes, whatever the cost. Honor the legacy of a Yankee who knows in his guts what kind of PINSTRIPE PRIDE it takes to deliver the goods. There should be no crying in baseball. Letting him walk would be a sad bad day in Yankees history.
